Ottawa - Confederation Line
Ottawa is going through an unprecedented era of transportation renewal. It is building, repairing and enhancing roads and adding significant kilometres of cycling infrastructure. At the centre, is the new light rail transit system will transform Ottawa now and for generations to come. The 12.5 kilometre Confederation Line will go a long way in alleviating traffic and gridlock on downtown streets.
The Confederation Line project has also been good news for the local economy, generating an unprecedented amount of economic activity. The value of contracts committed to local subcontractors was more than $360 million in 2013 alone. There have been hundreds of new jobs created over the past year. Over the life of the construction project, 20,000 person years of employment will be created, both as a direct result of the construction, as well as general economic uplift in the community.
