Montreal — Taking Action on Homelessness
The City of Montreal created a position of advocate for the homeless in April 2016. The advocate‘s priorities will be to counsel the city on best practices to address homelessness, engage with people experiencing homelessness to get a sense of their needs and, where services are lacking, help sculpt a mayoral committee on homelessness and collaborate on the creation of a plan to address racial and social profiling for the Montreal police force. The position is fully autonomous from the city and also exists to raise awareness of solutions to end homelessness. This position was one of the measures outlined in Montreal’s Action Plan on Homelessness, 2014-2017.
