Making home ownership more affordable
Calgary has a growing housing affordability challenge. Over the past 10 years, housing prices have increased 156% yet incomes have increased only 34% during that same time. Attainable Homes Calgary Corporation (AHCC) is a nonprofit social enterprise and wholly owned subsidiary of The City of Calgary that delivers well-appointed, entry-level homes for Calgarians who need help to enter the housing market.
The program connects builders, developers, lenders, lawyers and others to bring down the upfront costs of ownership so that Calgarians who wouldn’t otherwise be able to access homeownership can do so. This has the corollary benefit of freeing up rental units.
